Her head is like a video camera that is recording. Always. And there's no delete button. Melody is a 12 year old girl who has a photographic memory. Except for one thing...she has cerebral palsy. Cerebral Palsy is a disease where you can't move, can't write, and most importantly, can't talk. So all of Melody's thoughts are trapped inside her head, and she can't explain to anyone how smart she is or how much she knows. Sometimes, she goes crazy, and has her "Tornado Attacks". She scares people around her sometimes and she doesn't like that either. So, lets go on with the story. Melody has a neighbor named Mrs. Valencia, or Mrs. V. Mrs. V is like Melody's second mother! She babysits Melody, takes care of Melody, and teaches Melody. But when Melody gets a new baby sister, everything changes. Mrs.V starts to babysit Penny (the baby sister) too, and Melody's parents worry so much about the new baby, and how it's going to affect Melody. But not once does Melody think twice about her parents not thinking about her. Melody loves her new baby sister, and does everything to make Penny feel like she has a real big sister. Even the family dog, Butterscotch, helps out with Penny. Then, towards the end of the school year, Melody tries out for a quiz team and makes it! Melody and her family could not be happier. Being on the "normal" kids quiz team could not be any more exciting for Melody. She feels like a real kid. But only if she had a way to talk...
Tickle. Sneeze. Wish. Worry. Words have always swirled around me like snowflakes---each one delicate and different, each one melting untouched in my hands.
